SANTORINI

Part of the Cyclades Islands

This volcano erupted in 1450 BC, leaving a large crater or caldera. This eruption is thought to be responsible for wiping out the Minoan people both on Santorini and Crete. The island today is a crescent shape with two smaller islands in the middle. Houses have been built on the cliffs overlooking the caldera.

The round tops to some of the buildings is common in the Cyclades Islands.	This is a large resort on the island cliff, with an indoor/outdoor pool.
